Your Questions Answered

What is Mindfulness?

  • Mindfulness is a way of learning to relate directly to whatever is happening in your life rather than operating on "automatic pilot." Through practice you can more fully experience moments of joy and connection, and find new ways to relate to the illness, pain and stress that is part of life as well.

How will I benefit?

The physiological benefits are many and varied, including: lower blood pressure, improved sleep, reduction of chronic pain and inflammation, to name just a few. On a psychological level, feeling calmer can lead to fewer cravings for unhealthy foods and habits, more empathy in our interactions, and a higher level of tolerance towards the self and others.

What can I expect on the course ?

  • The course involves meditative practice, both static and in movement, an understanding of the theory and practicalities behind the practice, as well as an overview of the scientific evidence which supports it. You will be expected to practice the skills learnt at home, and keep record of your experience (this can be audio, written or even drawn). Audio and video recordings will be provided for home practice, as well as templates for logging practice.

How will this course help me to lower my stress and anxiety levels?

  • You’ll learn how to come out of auto-pilot, to stop living in your head and come back into the body. This in turn allows you to use your own inner resources to develop more resilience, better coping strategies, and to add an element of calm into your life.

Do I have to be experienced at meditating?

Not at all.

Beginners are expecially welcome. We only ask that you come with an open mind, ready to engage and complete the suitability form to ensure that the 8 week MBSR course is appropriate for you . Although the course is evidence based and provides tools that can benefit mental and physical wellness, it is not therapy, counselling or a clinical intervention.

Is it really free?

Yes, absolutely!

This course forms part of Nimah and Ayisatu's Training as practioners. They will be supervised and assessed on their delivery of the course.

Paid 8-week MBSR can cost between £200 - £350, so we feel very happy to be able to suport people with a free course.

The little things? The little moments?

They aren’t little.

- Jon Kabat-Zinn
